The
community’s in much of South Africa, like Simuwene, are mostly rural and
without infestructure. The country has a history of many people taking
advantage of strikes as many people would prefer to strike than to work for
their pay.
In
Simuwene, a different approach has been taken because they have no jobs to
start with! Where subsistent farming has been turned into subsistence building,
with them using the water they thankfully have, and the clay like ground to
make bricks, with only a few tools being sponsored, and a few teachers in the
art of building. In 5 years they have made a proper community for themselves.
The question now is if the rest of Africa can follow in example.
South Africa does have a record of strikes and the majority of people have jobs, teaching them skills such as these will either help themselves or the could create a bussiness, projects such as these will help the South African economy and the HDI i think lawrence has captured the aspects of rural development and understands what to do in the near future.
